Seven CubeSats successfully deployed from "Kibo"!

On August 29, 2024, following seven CubeSats were successfully deployed from the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) "Kibo":
  • CosmoGirl-Sat
  • SaganSat0
  • SAKURA
  • Wisseed Sat
  • Binar-2, Binar-3, Binar-4
* Since May 2018, as a new step to enhance the commercial utilization of Kibo, JAXA selected Space BD Inc. and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace Co., Ltd as the J-SSOD service provider.

【Mission】 The Mission of Wisseed Sat is to carry children's baby teeth to space in imitation of a Japanese custom of throwing their baby teeth onto the house rooves to pray for their health and growth. This mission is educationally expected to attract children to space and interest them in science and mathematics.

【Satellite】 Binar-2, Binar-3, Binar-4 [Size:1U x 3]

【Mission】 Each Binar mission objectives are the followings:
  1. Further developing the Binar CubeSat Bus (BCB) technology designed by Curtin University students and to improve on the design from lessons learned with Binar-1.
  2. Testing radiation blocking materials developed by CSIRO, where two of the satellites will have different shielding materials surrounding a radiation sensor, with the third to act as a control. These materials are Australian-developed radiation shielding materials that can be used in future Binar missions outside of LEO.
  3. Demonstrating the satellite re-entry tracking payload for future testing of re-entry systems. The goal of this payload is validation of the test platform, to show that theoretical modelling of the system is accurate.
