Area PADLES  ¡¦E Area PADLES 1

1. Area PADLES 1
: June 2008 STS-124(1J) launch - March 2009 STS-119(15A) return

Space radiation environment data in the "KIBO" were acquired for the first time by Area PADLES dosimeter installed in 12 places (from Area PADLES3 17 places) in the "KIBO" Pressurized Module(PM).

A measurement period is approximately 300 days.

A period concerned is a minimum period 24 of the solar activity cycle that started in January 2008 (the 24th sun activity cycle), and the contribution of the sun corpuscular rays is smaller and the contribution of the galactic cosmic ray is larger for all absorbed doses*.

* The cycle of the solar activity is observed at about 11 cycles of year by the average each month generation number of sunspots in 1755. (cf. chart below)

Astronaut Gregory Errol Chamitoff of NASA installed the Area PADLES 1 dosimeter on "KIBO".
