Final Round Results
The Final Round was held on-orbit Kibo and broadcasted from Tsukuba Space Center on October 8, 2020, with winners of the preliminary round from each country / region. Unfortunately, many finalists could not come to the venue due to COVID-19. Therefore, it was held as an online event by remote access, except for the Japanese team. They watched live in the observation room of the JAXA’s mission control center. Every finalist was excited to see how their programs controlled the actual Astrobee in ISS.
There were concerns about the localization of Astrobee before the event. Because of the complexities of the Astrobee, it was difficult to judge fairly whether the participant’s APK or Astrobee itself was the cause of the game mission failure. Therefore, JAXA decided to evaluate and rank the programming skills according to the simulation results as the Programming Skills Award. The team with the best performance of the flight on-orbit was awarded as the Best Achievement Onboard Award.
