Call for Participants: International Workshop on Space Combustion Research

On September 11, 2026, JAXA will hold the International Workshop on Space Combustion Research: Toward Sustainable Platforms for Lunar Exploration and Broader Applications in a hybrid format, with both on-site and online participation.

Based on the achievements of combustion research conducted in microgravity environments, including those carried out aboard the International Space Station (ISS), this workshop will discuss challenges related to ensuring fire safety for human lunar exploration and developing next-generation combustion technologies with high efficiency and low environmental impact.
In addition, the workshop will explore how the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and space experiments could drive future innovations in combustion science and technology.
Looking ahead to the post-ISS era anticipated after 2030, the workshop will also examine the role of combustion research platforms in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and discuss future directions for international collaboration to ensure their sustainable use.
